New York Knicks: Is This Season Driving Carmelo Away?

We all go through struggles in our lives. Whether it’s from school, work, love, friends, family, or money, we’ve all seen our bad days.

For me and for everyone reading this, we don’t have the same problems as New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony. The dude makes over $20 million a year, has gold medals, and is considered one of the best basketball players of this era. We don’t go through the same problems, especially choosing where to play basketball over the next four years with a max contract.

Melo forced his way to the Knicks, causing Knicks fans to think their savior has finally came. Now with Carmelo testing free agency this summer, many have the gut feeling that he will part ways with the Knicks, who can offer him more money than any other team.

The words coming out of Carmelo’s mouth aren’t the most reassuring words for Knicks fans. He called LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh smart for teaming up together in Miami to form a super team and a team that has made three straight Finals, winning the last two.

LeBron and Carmelo are competitors on the floor but are good friends off of it. LeBron struggled to take his career to the next level and made the choice to leave the Cavs to create a championships team with his best buds Wade and Bosh. Carmelo knows he needs to win to enhance his legacy and I think he realizes it’s not going to happen in New York.

He has been linked to the Clippers and his friendship with Chris Paul is well documented. The Clippers have no cap space to sign Melo but if they move DeAndre Jordan and some other moves, they possibly can form a Big 3 of CP3, Melo, and Blake Griffin.

He also has been on record as saying this is not how he envisioned things going with the Knicks.

This season has been a disaster for the Knicks and it won’t get any better in the future. With no draft picks, no beaming young talent, and an owner like James Dolan, there’s not much more Carmelo can squeeze out of New York. Last season was their window and they failed. If LeBron stays in Miami and the Pacers keep their team together, Melo knows this Knicks team has very little chance to overcome those two teams.

If I had to choose right now what I think Anthony will do this summer, I would pick he leaves New York.
