2013 ended in a rough fashion for the New York Knicks, and 2014 doesn’t look to get any better. At least not in the immediate future. The Knicks open up 2014 with a three-game Texas road trip, taking on the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, the Houston Rockets on Friday, and the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. Those three teams have a combined 63-32 record.

The Knicks are always weird about injuries to begin with, so we’ve largely been left in the dark about injuries to Carmelo Anthony, Pablo Prigioni, Raymond Felton, and Metta World Peace. Recently, the team shed some light on the injuries.

The Knicks could very likely start the new year 0-3. Playing all three games without their usual point guards, or one of the few wings on the team that can play team defense, isn’t a good way to try to avoid such a losing streak. In the meantime, we’ll see a whole lot of Beno Udrih, Toure’ Murry, and the wing triumverate of Iman Shumpert, J.R. Smith, and Tim Hardaway Jr.

No updates yet on Carmelo Anthony, but it’s probably a good guess that he’ll play at least one of the games on the road trip. Perhaps the Rockets and the Mavericks? We’ll see.

Let’s hope for a healthy team in 2014.
