New York Knicks Rumors: Allan Houston being considered as next Knicks coach

Current New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson is still employed, but it may not be for long.

Everywhere he turns a new name is popping up as a possible replacement and now he may have to look over his shoulder very far as there could be a candidate in his own front office.

According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Knicks owner James Dolan is prepared to make former Knick Allan Houston the team’s next head coach if Woodson doesn’t turn the team around soon.

Houston is currently serving as the team’s assistant general manager and for the past few years it has seemed as if he was being groomed to take over as the full-time GM in the near future.

The Knicks have lost nine consecutive games and are tied for the worst record in the NBA. They also haven’t won a game since Dolan gave Woodson a vote of confidence.

Having Houston take over the coaching reins would be an odd move, but as Isola points out, the team’s preseason replacement of former GM Glen Grunwald with Steve Mills seemed to come out of nowhere as well.

It’s also a very risky move considering the fact that Houston has no coaching experience. That’s something that shouldn’t be overlooked as you can see the struggles that Jason Kidd is having in his first year on the bench with the Brooklyn Nets.

With all the egos on this Knicks team, that’s a tough job for a rookie coach to handle.

I have always been a big fan of Houston’s but I don’t know if he would necessarily be the guy I would want on the bench, especially with an underachieving team.

One thing is for sure though and that’s Woodson’s time is coming to an end, likely sooner rather than later.

If that’s the case, who knows what direction Dolan will go, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see him do something like this.
