New York Knicks Rumors: What to do with Iman Shumpert and Amar'e Stoudemire

The New York Knicks are 3-8.

A team with high hopes this year is currently struggling in the early season. James Dolan and the Knicks front office are growing impatient by the minute, they want to make a big move to change the course of the season.

Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert are two names that have been tossed around recently in trade talks.

Should the Knicks move ahead with these trades?

No, they should not.

It is far too early to overreact and throw away players. Shumpert is still young. Only in his third season, Shumpert is looking for this to be his first full season. His rookie season was cut short by the lockout and the second season he was recovering from a torn ACL suffered in the playoffs.

Shumpert is already an outstanding defender, and he is getting better and better. His offensive game looks like it has developed, and if Mike Woodson gives him more offensive freedom we will see that development flourish further. His three point shot is very respectable now, and he is very athletic and his finishing skills are improving. He also is making next to nothing as he is still making money off of his rookie contract, so he is very salary cap friendly.

The only reason the Knicks are considering trading him is because he is highly valued around the league for the reasons stated before. He is the Knicks biggest asset in trade talks. The front office is panicking through just the first 11 games and want change. This is absurd, considering the Knicks are just one game back of the fourth seed.

With Amar’e, it is extremely frustrating that such a huge talent has been crippled in recent years by injury, rarely playing and is now on a minutes restriction, severely limiting the impact he can have on the team. If they could trade him away for someone who can have more of an impact that would be a good trade.

But let’s be realistic here.

Not many teams would take on the bloated contract of STAT. Is it possible to trade him? Yes, but they would most likely also have to package in Shumpert among other players.

The Knicks are off to a disappointing start, there is no denying that. But, the season is still young and the Knicks could turn things around.

The Knicks have no reason to panic yet. Take a chill pill James Dolan, the season just started.
