New York Knicks Rumors: Isiah Thomas will not return to Knicks

When the New York Knicks announced that Steve Mills was going to take over for former general manager Glen Grunwald, the biggest thing many Knicks’ fans worried about was another potential nightmare coming back to the Big Apple.

If anything positive has happened during Mills’ first week plus on the job, it appears that Mills has put to rest any possibility of that nightmare becoming a reality.

Mills has stated on more than one occasion that his former colleague Isiah Thomas would not be rejoining the organization.

That alone is something worth celebrating for Knicks’ fans everywhere.

“No, Isiah will not be coming back to the Knicks,” Mills told ESPN NY Radio (98.7 FM) in an interview on Monday. “I’ve known Isiah for a long time. He has a lot of good things going on in his life. He just finished getting his masters at Berkeley. He’s on NBA TV. He’s doing a lot of community work through his foundation with his mother.”

Mills advocated for Thomas’ hiring as Knicks president in 2003. Thomas would remain with the organization until his dismissal in 2008, and his tenure included an ugly sexual harassment lawsuit, a number of questionable trades and signings, and zero playoff appearances.

Because of Thomas’ mistakes, it took nearly a decade for the Knicks to become relevant once again.

Another Thomas reign is something no one is ready to tolerate right now or at any time in the near future.

While it doesn’t appear that Thomas will be joining the Knicks again in the short-term future, hopefully Mills sticks to his guns and avoids that possibility in the long-term.

Thomas still has a close relationship with both Mills and Knicks’ owner James Dolan, which is a scary thought. Back in 2012 it was rumored that Thomas could be re-joining the organization. Hopefully those rumors never come up again in the future.

So Knicks fans, we all seem to be safe from another potential disaster.

Hopefully things stay that way.
