New York Knicks Rumors: Knicks sign Chris Douglas Roberts

Well, one day of camp is in the books and the New York Knicks are already making roster moves.

Wednesday, the Knicks announced the signing of former New Jersey  Net Chris Douglas-Roberts.

A day after making the signing of former St. Johns forward Justin Brownlee official, Brownlee was waived by the team to make room for CDR.

Douglas-Roberts, 26, participated in camp with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks a year ago, and eventually appeared in a handful of regular season contests for Dallas. However, the 6’7″ wing hasn’t seen significant NBA minutes since he played for the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2010-11 season.

The reason for cutting Brownlee so soon isn’t clear at the moment, although there is some speculation that it has to do with an injury. If that’s the case, it makes sense to bring in a healthy body for training camp.

Douglas-Roberts holds career averages of 7.5 points, on 44.2-percent shooting, over 20.3 minutes in 161 games (52 starts) over four seasons with New Jersey, Milwaukee and Dallas.

He averaged 2.8 points over 10.5 minutes in six games for Dallas last season, and 17.9 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.44 steals over 34.8 minutes in 16 games for the Texas Legends of the NBA D-League.

After a very productive college career while at Memphis, Douglas-Roberts was originally selected by New Jersey with the 40th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.

I wouldn’t give him much of a chance to make the team out of camp, but he does have NBA experience and has done some good things in the league. If he puts together a good camp, he may sneak in and steal one of the projected three open roster spots.
