New York Knicks to host 2015 All-Star Game

The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets have not been getting along as of late, but they will have to act like best friends next season.

In one of the worst kept secrets of the offseason, the Knicks and Nets will be sharing the 2015 All-Star Weekend.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported earlier Tuesday that a press conference has been scheduled in New York City on Wednesday, where the league will announce the decision.

The All-Star Game itself will be played Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at the newly-renovated Madison Square Garden. The Saturday night festivities, including the Slam Dunk Contest and the Three-Point Shootout, will take place at new Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

While the likes of the Knicks’ J.R. Smith and the Nets’ Paul Pierce have been shooting their mouth off all offseason, setting the stage for what promises to be an intense rivalry, the two organizations have worked together to secure the first All-Star Game in New York since 1998.

It won’t be the first time that an All-Star Weekend has been held at split venues as in 2010, the American Airlines Center hosted All-Star Saturday while the game was played the next night at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.

This year’s All-Star Weekend will take place in New Orleans, while the NBA also announced that Toronto will host the festivities in 2016.

In addition to the 2015 game, the Knicks and Nets are also still in the running to potentially host the 2018 game in which the roles could be reversed as the festivities could take place in The Garden, while the game itself could take place at the  Barclays Center.
