New York Knicks Rumors: Are Knicks eyeing Hassan Whiteside?

Since it looks like they are now out on unrestricted free agent big man Hamed Haddadi, the New York Knicks search for their 15th man continues.

As it moves on, we get to throw a new name into the mix as the Knicks are now being linked to free agent big man Hassan Whiteside. According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld, the Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Miami Heat have expressed interest in the former Sacramento big man.

Whiteside hasn’t appeared in an NBA game since April 2012, but this late in free agency, he is starting to draw some attention from NBA clubs, which points to how thin the market for available big men currently is.

The 24-year old was drafted 33rd overall by the Kings in 2010, but only appeared in 19 games for the club before he was released.

The seven-footer spent most of last season in the D-League for the Sioux Falls Skyforce and Rio Grande Valley Vipers where he only got limited minutes. In just 11.8 minutes per contest (36 games), Whiteside averaged 6.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.

He will likely sign with the team where he has the best chance to earn a roster spot and that could be the Knicks, who are thin when it comes to center depth.

My personal feeling is that there may not be much to this. He is a guy worth checking in on, but the Knicks need someone to provide insurance and depth for Tyson Chandler and Whiteside is hardly that guy.
