New York Knicks Rumors: Gary Forbes To Work Out For Knicks

The New York Knicks still have one more contract to hand out and keep on working out potential players for the 2013-14 season.

The latest is a bit of a surprise in unrestricted free agent Gary Forbes.

Forbes, 28, spent two seasons in the NBA, playing for the Denver Nuggets in 2010-11 and the Toronto Raptors in 2011-12. In 111 career games, the 6’7″ forward averaged 5.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game to go along with a 12.4 PER in 13.5 minutes per contest.

He was then traded to the Houston Rockets in the trade that brought Kyle Lowry to Toronto, but was subsequently released by Houston.

Forbes spent last season playing international ball, averaging 28.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in 27 games for China’s Zhejiang Guangsha Lions.

The interest in Forbes is a bit of a head scratcher as the Knicks currently have a log jam at the small forward spot, especially given the case that Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson will often go small by using three guard lineups

The only reason the interest in Forbes makes any sense is the fact that he played with Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith and Kenyon Martin in Denver and the trio likely had good things to say about him.

Forbes also had a workout this week with the Los Angeles Lakers and both the Lakers and the Knicks can only offer him a minimum contract.
