Trades: C/F Marcus Camby, F Steve Novak, F Quentin Richardson

Waived: G/F James White

Retired: G Jason Kidd

I’m really not excited about the makeup of this Knicks team.

They trade for a jump shooting big man in Bargnani who can’t play defense and threw a lot of money at Smith who had knee surgery five days later.

The World Peace signing may have a decent impact, but overall the Knicks did nothing that gives you the feeling that they are in any better shape to contend than they were a season ago.

They have depth, but they have problems at point guard and in terms of team rebounding. Neither were addressed. It’s hard to imagine this Knicks team, as they are constructed now, keeping up with the likes of the Heat, Bulls, Pacers and Nets.

They may not have taken a step backwards, but they haven’t taken one forward.

Grade: C
