New York Knicks Rumors: What should the Knicks do with remaining MLE?

Even though the New York Knicks have made a few moves this offseason, there are still a lot of holes to fill and not much money to fill them with.

After giving point guard Pablo Prigioni some of their $3 million mid-level exception, the Knicks final major offseason move will have to come by signing someone for the remaining portion of that, which amounts to approximately $1.75 million.

Now while it is impossible to land a major piece for that amount of money, the Knicks may be able to land a decent rotation player. After that all moves will have to be for the veteran’s minimum.

So with that being said, how should the Knicks spend the rest of their MLE?

The consensus is that the Knicks still need three things- a backup point guard, frontcourt depth and another shooter on the wing.

The point guard market got really thin, really quick.

It looks like the Knicks have interest in Earl Watson, Will Bynum, Aaron Brooks, and Devin Harris, but they could also turn their eyes to Sebastian Telfair, who reportedly wants to play in New York.

The rest of their MLE may not be enough to land a guard like Bynum or Brooks, but if they are seriously considering Telfair then it may make sense to spend their MLE somewhere else.

That brings me to the front court where the name Elton Brand has been thrown around quite often this week.

Adding a player such as Brand, who is still productive, could be priority No. 1, especially considering the fact that the Knicks frontcourt broke down last season. There’s also Kenyon Martin who should still be an option.

But the question that has to be asked here is can the Knicks land either player for $1.75 million this season?

Finally the Knicks need to add a shooter and solid defender on the perimeter.

ESPN’s Jared Zwerling had reported earlier that the Knicks were considering using the rest of their MLE on that type of player and brought up names such as:  Francisco Garcia, Carlos Delfino, and Dahntay Jones.

So what should the Knicks do?

My personal feeling is that if Brand would accept their MLE then it is a no-brainer.

He not only adds production, but would settle for a role coming off the bench. He also provides quality insurance in case there are injuries, especially to Amar’e Stoudemire.

So Knicks’ fans, where would you spend the rest of the money?
