Carmelo Anthony: Close It Out in Game 5

The New York Knicks have to close out this  first round series against the Boston Celtics at home on Wednesday.

Game 5 will be a defining moment for not only the Knicks but for Carmelo Anthony specifically.

This is Carmelo’s team and city and he needs to show his fans that he can put an end to a series, especially in Madison Square Garden.

Anthony is an elite scorer but it’s no secret he struggled in Game 4. I know, almost every player would do anything for a 36-point playoff game on the road, nevertheless call it a struggle of a game, but Melo wasn’t himself.

Melo got almost half his points from the charity-stripe,  going 16-for-20, but he missed two huge free-throws down the stretch in crunch time.

Going 10-for-35 (28 percent) from the floor and 0-for-7 from three is straight out unacceptable.

Game 4 was a hard task without J.R. Smith and with Boston with it’s back against the wall, but Melo didn’t play his greatest game. The loss doesn’t get blamed on him, but he could have been a hero and fell a little short.

Game 5 will be huge for Anthony’s Knick legacy. He can’t make the Knicks come up short and travel back to Boston for Game 6. He has to take care of business at home and start preparing for either the Indiana Pacers or Atlanta Hawks.

It will be a total team effort, but it will fall on the shoulders of the Knicks’ superstar. Hopefully on Thursday morning we are talking about how excited and proud we are that the Knicks are headed to the second round.

The Garden will be shaking for Game 5.

Give them a game to remember ‘Melo, and send Boston home packing.
