New York Knicks Rumors: Knicks sign Quentin Richardson

It didn’t take long for the New York Knicks to replace Solomon Jones on the roster.

After releasing Jones yesterday, the Knicks announced that they have signed guard/forward Quentin Richardson for the remainder of the season.

Richardson, who spent four seasons with the Knicks earlier in his career (2005-09), is still being paid by the Orlando Magic, who released him prior to the start of the season. The 33-year-old wasn’t very good in his two seasons in Orlando, averaging just 4.5 PPG and an 8.4 PER in 105 contests for the Magic.

Because he hasn’t signed with an NBA team since October, Richardson remains playoff-eligible, though I can’t imagine him playing much of a role for the Knicks in the postseason.

He’s not a big guy, so the move signals that they are comfortable with their frontcourt depth heading into the postseason.

Richardson holds career averages of 10.3 points, on 39.8-percent shooting from the field and 35.5-percent shooting from three-point range, with 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 26.5 minutes in 782 games (486 starts) over 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Miami Heat and Orlando Magic. He has appeared in 31 postseason games (21 starts), averaging 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds over 28.5 minutes.

There is a chance that Richardson could provide some additional perimeter shooting, but at this point, it would be tough to imagine him getting off the bench in the playoffs unless it is simply for garbage time minutes.
