New York Knicks: Where current win streak ranks among franchise's longest

It has been quite some time since we have seen the New York Knicks run off a streak compared to their current 12-game feat.

What the Knicks have been doing when it comes to reeling off wins is certainly historic for this franchise as the 12 wins in a row have tied the 2012-13 team for the third longest winning streak in franchise history.

That begs the questions of how much longer the hot streak can continue and if the Knicks can challenge the all-time franchise record?

Before I answer those questions, let’s take a look at where they rank in history.

3. 1993, 12 games, April-November: This current streak ties the 1993 team, but that streak spanned two seasons. The 1992-93 team won their final five regular season games, then the 1993-94 team started 7-0 the following season. There were a few playoff losses sprinkled in between, which makes the current 12-game streak a bit more impressive.

2. 1994, 15 games, March-April: These Knicks, who eventually lost in the NBA Finals to the Houston Rockets, reeled off  a 15-game win streak by beating 13 different opponents, including future Eastern Conference postseason opponents in the New Jersey Nets, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers (twice). To tie this mark, the current team will have to defeat the Washington Wizards at The Garden and win road games against the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers.

1. 1969, 18 games, November-December: The 1969 team set the all-time franchise mark during a season in which they eventually won the NBA championship. They started the season 26-2, winning the first five, losing the sixth and then winning the next 18 in a row. Perhaps the most dominant team in franchise history, these Knicks scored over 110 points in 14 of the 18 wins.

To equal the all-time franchise mark, these Knicks will have to win out. If they get to second place by winning their next three, they will have to beat the Indiana Pacers at The Garden, win at Charlotte then close the season with a win at home against the Atlanta Hawks.

Closing the season with 18 consecutive wins doesn’t seem possible, but watching what these Knicks have been capable of the first 12 games of the streak, it gives you the feeling that nothing is impossible.

Whether they get to 18 or not, what these Knicks have accomplished so far has been special and deserves a place in Knicks history.
