New York Knicks: Tyson Chandler hopeful for return Tuesday vs. Heat

The New York Knicks put their eight-game win streak on the line Tuesday night against the defending champion Miami Heat, and they may have a some additional help.

According to ESPN’s Jared Zwerling, Knicks center Tyson Chandler says small bulging disk in his neck felt better and he was eyeing a Tuesday return against the East-leading Miami Heat.

“It became excruciating honestly to where it kind of couldn’t even move,” Chandler told ESPN’s Ian Begley. “But after a while of letting it calm down, then it came to where I could walk around but couldn’t sit for long periods of time or move without spasming up or catching pain,” Chandler said. “This is the best I’ve felt since, so I’ve been optimistic that it’s been getting better.”

Having Chandler, who has missed  the past 10 games, back in the lineup will be big if the Knicks are to continue rolling. If he does return, suddenly the Knicks will have a scary frontline with Chandler and Kenyon Martin. Chandler has averaged 10.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.1 block, while shooting 64.5 percent from the floor. Martin has been pretty good filling in for Chandler, averaging 9.9 points on 69.4 percent shooting during the winning streak, along with averages of six rebounds and around a block and steal.

While playing them together gives the Knicks a pair of pretty efficient offensive big men, it’s defensively where they will make the biggest impact, as they can make teams think twice about taking the ball to the basket.

But while Chandler is confident he can return to the lineup, the Knicks aren’t so confident.

The All-Star center went through a workout on Monday before the Knicks flew  to Miami and the Knicks are still listing him as questionable.

His status against Miami will officially be determined after shootaround on Tuesday morning.
