New York Knicks: Tyson Chandler to get MRI on neck

A couple things are clear for the New York Knicks.

One is the fact that Carmelo Anthony is the team’s best player and it hurts to not have him in the lineup.

Another fact is that Tyson Chandler is the Knicks MVP and most important player on the team and they really can’t afford for him to be out of the lineup for any length of time.

But that has been the case the last three games as Chandler has been out with a strained neck. He also is nursing a banged up knee after taking a tough fall against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday. Chandler left that game in the second quarter and hasn’t returned to the court since.

Chandler will undergo an MRI Tuesday morning on his strained neck, league sources told ESPN’s Chris Broussard (per ESPN’s Jared Zwerling).

When Chandler’s not on the floor, the Knicks lose a leader and their best defensive player. The first time All-Star helps make up for teammates mistakes, and that is something they don’t have when he’s not on the floor.

Not to mention that when he’s on the sidelines, the Knicks are missing 10.6 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.15 blocks per game, in addition to Chandler’s 64.5 percent field goal percentage, which leads the NBA.

Hopefully for Knicks fans, Chandler’s neck won’t turn out to be a problem as they need him badly for the stretch run.
