New York Knicks: Amare Stoudemire to Miss 6 weeks

What seemed to be a great revitalization by New York Knicks PF Amare Stoudemire, has turned into yet another stint on the Injured Reserve.  Stoudemire will miss around 6 weeks with right knee injury that will require surgery.  The injury specifically is for him to have right knee debridemnent: this is the medical removal of dead, damaged, or infected tissue to improve the healing of the remaining healthy tissue in his knee.  This is the same surgery Stoudemire went through before the season started which ended up causing him to miss 30 games of the regular season.

In the 29 games Stoudemire has played in this season, he has averaged 14.2 PTS, 5.0 REB, with 58% FG, in only 23.5 minutes of playing time.  That’s what you call being efficient.

The regular season ends April 17, so if Stoudemire would come back at the 6 week mark, that would mean he would return to action either late first round, or early second round.  Wow this is such a blow to a player that was playing so well.

The Knicks now will have no Stoudemire or Carmelo against the Jazz tonight, who has missed 2 games with a sore right knee (injured against the Cavaliers on Monday).  This leaves the Knicks very thin offensively and will now have to be even more reliant on JR Smith to put up 30 shots a game.  We will see increased minutes from Kenyon Martin at the 4 position and see more action from Marcus Camby who just came off of a foot injury.

Hopefully Stoudemire can see some playing time during the playoffs and be able to come back and play at a high level and be as efficient as he was before this current injury.  We definitely need his scoring if we want to go far in the playoffs.
