New York Knicks Trade Rumors: Knicks have interest in Timofey Mozgov

As the NBA trade deadline sits less than one day away, the New York Knicks trade rumors have been starting to pick up, as Knicks’ general manager Glen Grunwald attempts to put the finishing touches on what could be a contender for an NBA championship.

The Knicks badly need frontcourt depth, which brings me to a familiar name in Denver Nuggets’ center Timofey Mozgov.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have inquired on the availability of Mozgov.

Mozgov, 26, was part of the Carmelo Anthony deal two years ago and has done some decent things in Denver until recently falling out of George Karl’s rotation.

The seven-footer is averaging 2.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 10 minutes per game but have nice per 36 minutes averages of 10.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.

It’s doubtful that a deal goes down with the Nuggets as Mozgov is drawing interest from a number of teams besides the Knicks. In addition, it appears that Denver is looking for a big haul in return; something the Knicks would be foolish to do at the moment.

But if the price goes down, they could definitely be a player for Mozgov.

According to a report, Denver has already turned down a proposal from the Minnesota Timberwolves that included Brandon Roy and a first-round pick.

Grunwald must decide whether or not to target a big man or roll the dice with Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby, who are both injured and remain injury risks going forward.

If a deal for Mozgov doesn’t go down, Berman also noted that he is a guy that the Knicks will target this summer when he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
