New York Knicks: Impact of Camby and Wallace Returning

The old men are coming back.

New York Knicks fans can expect to see Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby back into the rotation early in the second half of the season. This will bring much needed energy and a smooth rotation for Mike Woodson’s frontcourt. You can say whatever you want about their consistency or scoring production, but you can’t argue that Camby and Wallace can crash those boards.

Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, and Carmelo Anthony have been carrying the load of the rebounding effort as of late.

Wallace is still fifth (4.2) on the team despite only playing 20 games and Camby is seventh (3.7) with only 14 games under his belt. The Knicks have no big men off the bench and that really hurts them. Chandler is going to be taxed come playoff time and he is the anchor and heart of the defense. If Camby and ‘Sheed can even give him five minutes more of rest a game, those minutes add up.

Rasheed can stretch the floor with his shooting ability and of course add the toughness he is known for. With Jason Kidd not being the player he was in the beginning of the season, a switch in the starting lineup can come soon. If Woodson sticks with Kidd as a starter, a bench of J.R. Smith, Stoudemire, Steve Novak, Camby, Wallace, and Pablo Prigioni, Woodson would have plenty of options.

We have not seen this Knicks team at full strength this entire season. From Raymond Felton, Stoudemire, Camby, and Wallace, this entire 15-man roster has not been completely healthy yet.

When they start getting their groove and playing their best ball, we can finally judge this team for who they are.
