Carmelo Anthony: What Melo Needs To Do In The 2nd Half to Lead Knicks

With 32 games left in the season’s second half, there is only one thing on the mind of Knicks fans:-championship.

Besides the Miami Heat, despite the Knicks beating them twice by 20 this season, fans are confident that this Knicks team can beat anyone come playoff time. However this team will go as far as one man takes them, and that man is Carmelo Anthony.

Carmelo has been a MVP candidate all season long and is currently the NBA leading scorer at 29 points per game. We all know ‘Melo is natural scoring machine, but he must do more than this in the second half to lead the Knicks.

Anthony needs to continue to be the unquestioned leader of this team. Tyson Chandler gives this team their heart but in crunch time there’s only one player that we want to see with the ball. Leaders step up not only with 30 seconds left in the game, but down 10 in the fourth quarter with eight minutes to go. They just turn it on. Carmelo needs to continue being the player his teammates turn to when it’s go-time.

Besides being the leader on the court, he needs to be the leader in the locker room. If the Knicks lose a tough game or to inferior team, he should step and take the bullet. His teammates and media would respect him even more if he came out and said, “That loss is on me, I let my teammates down.” I’m not saying ‘Melo doesn’t do this or he lacks this in him, but this is what I would love to see in the second half from Anthony leading into playoff time.

Another thing Carmelo has to do is stay healthy. He is the Knicks and they are nothing without him come playoff time. Health and injuries most of the time are out of a player’s hands, but the Knicks needs him at full strength. If playoff seeding is locked up or there is a blowout, Carmelo should rest and think one thing on his mind- winning a championship.

The final thing Carmelo has to do in this second half is get focused for LeBron James. LeBron is playing out of his mind right now. Carmelo should use this as motivation and work his ass off to be better than him. Carmelo has never been afraid of LeBron and he should welcome a matchup against him with open arms and a smile. The Knicks will have to beat the Heat if they ever want to win a championship, and if Carmelo beats LeBron, his legacy will be cemented as an all-time Knicks great.

Anthony came to New York for his sole reason: to bring a championship back to the Garden and the greatest fans in the world. He should take these last 32 games to prepare and set himself up for an all-time playoff run.
