Are the New York Knicks concerned about Jason Kidd's back?

Just when you think the New York Knicks are starting to get healthy, you realize that may never happen this season.

The latest injury concern belongs to point guard Jason Kidd, whose back is beginning to concern the franchise.

Once Iman Shumpert returned to the lineup, Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson was looking forward to cutting down the veteran’s minutes, but not due to injury. Kidd played just five minutes in the Knicks’ win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday after being limited to just 15 minutes in Saturday night’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Woodson said on the radio yesterday that he expects Kidd to play on the radio Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. Woodson also said he was just resting Kidd and there was no injury.

But according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, a Knicks source told him that Kidd wasn’t simply getting rested and was getting treatment on his injured back.

If that is indeed the case, then there is cause for concern.

Isola also notes how secretive the Knicks have been this season regarding injuries.

He writes:

The Knicks, though, have a recent habit of not being forthcoming regarding injuries. In October, they continued to list Amar’e Stoudemire as day-to-day with a sore knee until Stoudemire needed surgery and missed the first two months of the season. Rasheed Wallace was also listed as day-to-day with what the Knicks described as a sore left foot when in fact Wallace suffered a stress fracture. Wallace is now approaching seven weeks since he last played.

Even when Kidd missed the first of four straight games in November due to back spasms, Woodson said Kidd was a game-time decision even though Kidd did not even travel with the team to Brooklyn.

The Knicks are 12 games above .500 despite not having a full complement of 15 players available to them at any point this season. The likes of Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler, Raymond Felton, J.R. Smith, Stoudemire and Kidd have only appeared in two games together this season.

Injuries continue to hit this team hard and you have to hope that eventually Woodson will have a completely healthy team.

Kidd appears to be the latest victim.

Will he play on Wednesday?

Only Kidd and the Knicks organization knows for sure, but one thing is for sure. There is reason to be concerned.
