Iman Shumpert keeping his trademark hair

Now that New York Knicks’ guard Iman Shumpert is ready to make his season debut, there was really only one question fans had about Shump’s return.

Would he keep his trademark hair?

That answer is a resounding yes as Shumpert said he would be keeping his high top fade on the  ESPN New York 98.7 FM’s “The Michael Kay Show.”

“I’m not cutting my hair,” he told Kay and co-host Don LaGreca, with a laugh. “I’ve had people say it looks stupid. I don’t really care what they think — they don’t have to wear it.”

Shumpert also said during the interview that Carmelo Anthony had asked him to cut it, but he won’t cave in.

The second-year guard is expected to make his season debut Thursday night against the Detroit Pistons in London, as long as he gets through Wednesday’s practice without any setbacks.

His return can’t come at a  better time for the Knicks, who have gone only 6-8 in their past 14 games and have won only 3-of-7 games since the calendar flipped to 2013.

The biggest reason for the Knicks recent slide has been their defense, especially the perimeter defense, as the Knicks have allowed 100 or more points in seven of the past eight defeats.

Shumpert emerged as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA as a rookie last season, so hopefully he is able to give this team a shot in the arm.
