New York Knicks still hoping Rasheed Wallace gets healthy

There have been many rumors swirling around as of late concerning the New York Knicks potentially signing free agent forward Kenyon Martin.

But that has no chance of happening until the team figures out exactly what is wrong with forward Rasheed Wallace and exactly how long they will be without him.

Wallace will miss his 13th consecutive game Thursday night with what the Knicks are calling a stress reaction in his left foot and 16th game overall this season out.

The Knicks sure could use Martin as an insurance  policy, but the problem is that they have a roster that sits at the maximum of 15 players, so it would require a roster move of releasing a guaranteed contract.

That insurance policy certainly would come in handy against the Pacers as both Wallace and Carmelo Anthony (suspension) are out of the lineup and Amar’e Stoudemire’s minutes will be reduced (soreness in knee), leaving the Knicks shorthanded in the frontcourt against a very big Pacers team.

By not signing Martin, it looks as if the Knicks believe that Wallace will return soon.

Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson noted that Wallace will begin running and practicing next week, so his return figures to be close, although the Knicks will likely be without the big man for at least another week at the minimum.
