Marcus Camby to return Friday

The New York Knicks defense hasn’t been that great over the course of the past few weeks and they could get a possible boost to that with the expected return of Marcus Camby.

Camby told Marc Berman of The New York Post that he will get a cortisone injection today and plans to return Friday against the Bulls. Camby missed his ninth straight game last night with plantar fasciitis.

His second stint in the Big Apple is all too similar to his first go around as it has been filled with injuries to this point.

But Camby could give the Knicks’ defense a boost if head coach Mike Woodson elects to use him- something he wasn’t that willing to do early on after Camby returned from a calf injury that cost him all of training camp.

To date, Camby has played in only six games and is averaging only 7.7 minutes in those contests. He is averaging only 0.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.3 blocks per game.

But he can play defense and rebound the basketball, an area the Knicks are 28th in the NBA in.

Camby hasn’t made much of an impact to date, but if he can earn minutes in Woodson’s rotation, he can still offer this team some value.
