Report: Amar'e Stoudemire to Practice Tuesday

It’s been a long time since New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire has taken the floor with his teammates, but it looks as if we could be a step closer to seeing that happen.

According to both Marc Berman of the New York Post and ESPN’s Ian Begley, Stoudemire could be cleared to practice as early as Tuesday morning.

If it isn’t Tuesday, this news means it will likely be very soon. After Stoudemire returns to practice, it will probably be just a week or two until he is playing again in games.

When he does return, it is expected that Stoudemire would be coming off the bench, at least at first. That makes sense; the Knicks are 18-5 with their normal starting rotation.

STAT is coming off a down season by his standards, but still averaged 17.5 points and 7.8 rebounds a game last season while shooting 48.3 percent. The numbers have never been the problem; it was the fact that the Knicks’ offense was lousy a year ago with Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler all on the floor together.

That could all change after Stoudemire trained with Hakeem Olajuwon in the offseason on developing a post-game.

In addition, Begley reported that Stoudemire has gone through several grueling workouts before games as of late and his movements looked fluid and is gaining explosiveness in his surgically repaired left knee.

That is good news to hear for Knicks fans.

However with the Christmas season coming, it remains to be seen whether or not Stoudemire’s pending return turns out to be a great Christmas present or a big lump of coal.
