Amar'e Stoudemire Content With Bench Role

The New York Knicks are currently 10-4 and tied with the Brooklyn Nets for the Atlantic Division lead. New York is one of the best teams in the NBA and it is doing all this without one of its main stars, Amar’e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire has not played a single game in the 2012-13 season due to a knee injury, but the Knicks have figured out ways to win games without him. Carmelo Anthony is emerging as a leading candidate for the MVP award and a lot is being said about the job this coaching staff has done. However, no one is sure how great this Knicks team can be until Stoudemire returns from injury. Many people have doubts about whether or not Stoudemire can fit in with the Knicks and if he is willing to take a bench role.

According to ESPN New York, the Knicks star is ready to come off the bench if it means the Knicks continue to win.

Amar’e Stoudemire would accept a role as the New York Knicks’ sixth man if asked, two sources with knowledge of Stoudemire’s thinking told

“All he cares about right now is helping the team and winning,” said one source, who has been around Stoudemire regularly in recent weeks. “He’d be fine with coming off the bench if that’s what they want.”

Stoudemire’s willingness to play in the second unit speaks a lot about his demeanor and maturity. The New York Knicks have the talent to compete with any team in the NBA, but it is up to the players to make sure they work together. Anthony has taken charge of the lineup with Stoudemire out and he is doing a great job leading his players.

Stoudemire may eventually find his niche in the starting lineup, but as of this point, he has no problem coming off the bench.
