Why Amar'e Stoudemire's Injury is Great News for Chris Copeland

While the aging New York Knicks have been as busy coming up with injuries as they have been at developing chemistry, there really isn’t a whole lot of speculation as far as who will make the opening day roster.

Really there are only two questions left to be answered.

One, will the Knicks keep Rasheed Wallace, which is pretty much a given, and secondly, who will get the last guaranteed contract.

With the latest injury to Amar’e Stoudemire, it looks as if that final question has answered itself.

Stoudemire’s void creates an opportunity for Chris Copeland to make the Knicks’ roster, although Copeland’s play so far would suggest that he didn’t need Stoudemire to create a void for him.

Copeland has been nothing short of outstanding throughout the preseason.

After impressing during the summer league, Copeland has been outstanding during the preseason, capping things off so far by scoring a game-high 34 points on 11-of-18 shooting. He was perfect in nine trips to the line and hit three three-pointers.

Stoudemire’s injury isn’t serious and Copeland should make the team and could possibly be a part of Mike Woodson’s rotation, at least early on.

The Knicks are still a banged up team and one thing is for sure, Copeland can play.

After bouncing around Europe and the D-League for the last five years, it would be a nice story if he makes the team. It would be an even nicer one if Copeland can contribute and help the Knicks win games.
