New York Knicks to Play Pistons in London

The NBA made official one of its worst kept secrets on Thursday, when they confirmed that the New York Knicks January 17th game against the Detroit Pistons will be played in London.

The game previously had been designated for international play, but the site wasn’t immediately disclosed.

The O2 arena in London will host its seventh NBA game — including four exhibitions — since 2007. That’s the same O2 Arena when Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler recently won gold medals and the same city in which Anthony hit an amazing 10 three-pointers in a game.

NBA commissioner David Stern released a statement.

“London was the epicenter of global sports this summer, and the Olympics were a tremendous showcase for basketball,” NBA commissioner David Stern said in a released statement. “Playing our third regular-season game in the city in three years and having historic franchises like the Knicks and Pistons serve as our ambassadors provide extraordinary opportunities to further the game’s growth and development in the UK and throughout Europe.”

The Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets last played a pair of regular-season games at the same venue in March 2011, but the NBA skipped London on its preseason tour this year.
