The Knicks have not gotten much praise this summer as far as being considered a top team. Everyone from ESPN to Charles Barkley has, in my opinion, underrated The Knicks and bashed their decision making this offseason.
Now, finally some players are coming out in favor of the team. Shaq said the other day that the Knicks were the team to beat in New York. Chris Bosh went as far as to imply that The Knicks could be one of the teams to try and stand in The Heat’s way.
“I just want to say — the freakin’ Knicks, man,” Bosh told ESPN, “I think they’re going to be a good team.”
The Knicks took a lot of heat (no pun intended) this summer when they let Jeremy Lin walk. People don’t blame Lin for some reason, even though he is the one to sign a bigger deal trying to milk the Knicks for all they had thinking they had no plan B. Then comes Raymond Felton and the need for Lin disappears. There is a chance that Lin is the next big thing in this league, but the odds are against him.
The team was criticized for adding age to the roster. Veterans are called veterans for a reason; they are not geriatrics. They are all in better shape than any of the sports writers or Charles Barkley are, and they are ready to contribute to a winning team.
“Nobody’s really talking about them, and I don’t like it,” Bosh added, “They’re flying under the radar right now.”
People think that the Knicks believe the key to them winning a championship is the talent they’ve added. I don’t think that’s the case. The Knicks are expecting the talent they already had to step up and be unstoppable. That talent has a name, and his name is Carmelo Anthony. Of course, STAT and Tyson Chandler are huge pieces of this team, but if ‘Melo doesn’t elevate his game than the moves the team made will result in nothing.
The Knicks have a good coach focused on playing lock down defense and holding his players accountable when they make mistakes. They have good stars who have worked hard this offseason to come back with new moves, new attitudes, and in better shape. They have a bench that could be the starting lineup on a Charlotte Bobcats team.
Clearly the only people worried about The Knicks are players who play for (or formerly played for) the best team in the league. Maybe everyone should wake up?
“I think the Knicks are gonna be a very good team.”
