New York Knicks Getting to Work Early

It’s good news that this New York Knicks team has goals heading into the 2013 season. Knicks’ players such as Amar’e Stoudemire and J.R. Smith have on more than one occasion use the word championship to describe the Knicks goals this season.

It’s also good to see that they are taking things very seriously as Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire and company have gotten to work early in order to prepare for what could be a big season.

In a pre-training camp get together organized by the likes of Steve Novak and other Knicks players, Antony and Stoudemire were among a large contingent of Knicks to show up for voluntary workouts at the team’s practice facility in Greenburgh on Monday.

Anthony told Anthony told ESPN New York on Tuesday that they participated in six full-court scrimmages and lifted weights together.

It’s not been reported exactly which other Knicks were in attendance, but Tyson Chandler and Pablo Prigioni were among the players not in attendance.

This is a good thing to build chemistry as the Knicks roster has been completely overhauled from the last time they had a full training camp. First there was the Anthony trade in 2011 and this offseason there are seven new players under guaranteed contracts. Also keep in mind that the Knicks’ Big Three of Anthony, Stoudemire and Chandler have yet to have a full training camp together.

“Everybody realizes that this is our first full season together,” Anthony said to ESPN’s Ian Begley. “So the more time that we can utilize, the more guys that we get back in town to play and do things, it just builds camaraderie. It builds that bond. So when training camp does start, we can just keep on going and we’re already acclimated.”

Training camp doesn’t begin until October 2, but it’s nice to see the Knicks coming together before that.

Maybe the extra effort, in addition to a full training camp may bring better results to a team that’s in search of its first championship since 1973.
