Carmelo Gives Gold Back to the Kids

Carmelo Anthony is turning into New York’s most recognizable and popular athlete. Entering his third year with the New York Knicks, Carmelo is up there with Derek Jeter, Eli Manning, and dare I say it, Tim Tebow.

He was already one of the most popular and well-known NBA superstars when he was a Denver Nugget, a very small market. When he joined the Knicks, he also joined the biggest market in the world. This can get to a lot of athletes’ heads, causing them to make big, stupid mistakes off the court. Carmelo hasn’t had one off the court problem and as we see here, he loves giving back to the community.

I believe Carmelo is still a kid at heart and he grew up in a rough neighborhood.

The Garden of Dreams foundation gives both members of the Knicks and New York Rangers organizations to give back to the community, dedicating their time to help children by “making dreams come true for kids facing obstacles.”

Carmelo along with Knick legend and current assistant GM Allan Houston and Rangers star goalie Henrik Lundqvist handed out gold medals to members of the Garden of Dreams during “Dream Week.” They also brought their own medals so the kids can see what an Olympic medal looks and feels like.

Carmelo has been a hit on and off the court since his arrival in the Big Apple. Giving back to the city’s kids is definitely one way to keep up that reputation.
