Two years ago at Carmelo Anthony’s wedding, New York Knicks fans were given a glimpse of what could happen in the future. At that time, the Knicks just landed Amar’e Stoudemire and things were expected to get better in the city.
At his wedding, Anthony brought Stoudemire and Chris Paul to live the special moment and that’s where Paul won over the Knicks fans. Paul made a toast at the event and said, “We’ll form our own Big 3,” referring to him, Stoudemire and Anthony joining forces in New York.
Anthony was later traded to the New York Knicks, but Paul finished the season with the New Orleans Hornets and was eventually sent off to the Los Angles Clippers.
The Clippers offered Paul a three-year, $60 million extension, but to the surprise of many it was declined. Still, it was a smart financial move for Paul who could potentially sign a five-year, $108 million contract next summer, New York Daily News.
“I know why I didn’t sign my extension,” Paul said on Sunday before the U.S. Olympic team practiced. “I’m going to play this season out and see what my options are.”
Paul hasn’t ruled out a possibility of playing for the Knicks and neither has Carmelo Anthony, who smiled when asked about his USA Olympic teammate’s future.
