After losing out on point guard Steve Nash and potentially having to make a tough decision on current point guard Jeremy Lin, the Knicks have turned their attentions to free agent Raymond Felton.

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reports via Twitter that the Knicks have become the favorites to sign Felton.

It wouldn’t be the first time Felton has signed with the Knicks as he signed with the franchise in 2011 and got off to a good start before being included in the Carmelo Anthony trade. Felton was a good fit in former head coach Mike D’Antoni’s offense, but on paper doesn’t seem like a great fit in Mike Woodson’s slower attack.

As a Knick, Felton averaged 17.1 points and 9.0 assists in 54 games, the best 54 game stretch of his career. But again, that was a totally different offense than the one he will be walking into now.

Since then, Felton has averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 assists in 81 combined games with the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers.

At minimum though, Felton would be the veteran backup that the Knicks are searching for to backup Lin, should they re-sign him.

If Lin bolts and Felton must assume the starting point guard job, then the Knicks could be in trouble.

But with the point guard market thinning out in the fashion that it did, Felton becomes one of the only realistic options left on the market for the Knicks.
