The NBA’s free-agency period began today and rumors have been surfacing around for hours. One of the main attractions during this time is unrestricted point guard Steve Nash, someone who the Knicks desperately want. However, due to salary cap restrictions the Knicks can only offer Nash a mid-level exception worth a little over $3 million.
Still, that will not stop the Knicks from trying to acquire Nash and to lure in the guard the front-office is looking into sign-and-trade options. If the Knicks can figure something out with the Suns they can bring in Nash and offer him more than $5 million, New York Post.
The Knicks have had exploratory talks with Phoenix about a sign-and-trade for Steve Nash, according to an NBA source. If the Suns take back a couple of Knicks pawns, it would allow Nash to make more than the $3.09 mid-level exception the Knicks have now.
New York does have some pieces that could intrigue the Suns; however, Phoenix may not want role players in exchange for the future Hall-of-Fame guard.
