Well, LeBron James finally has his ring.

Now that the monkey is finally off his back, which NBA player does the pressure of not winning shift to?

There are stars such as Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Steve Nash and Chris Paul, who right now haven’t won a championship, but the most likely NBA superstar to feel the heat of not winning a title, is going to be Carmelo Anthony.

A player with the talents of Anthony and hasn’t come close to winning a title is going to start hearing all the criticism James received for not winning until this season.

Melo was drafted in the same 2003 draft class as LeBron, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. They all now have at least one ring while Melo has been bounced out of the playoffs in the first round in 8-of-9 seasons.

A superstar such as Melo has to lead the Knicks on a lengthy playoff run or he will soon begin to receive the LeBron treatment from the national media and NBA fans alike.

James took a lot of heat for leaving Cleveland and signing with Miami. Melo isn’t so different as he held the Denver Nuggets hostage to force his way to the Big Apple. Now he has to win.

He was paired with Amar’e Stoudemire to do one thing- win a championship.

That means Melo is going to have to take a big step in that direction this year. He’s got the team he wanted, the major market he wanted, the coach he wanted. Actually so far Melo has gotten everything he’s wanted. Now it’s his turn to produce.

He’s now the best player in the NBA to never win a championship. Hopefully the pressure won’t mount on Melo in the fashion it did with LeBron, but playing in New York, that’s doubtful.

The monkey is off LeBron’s back. It’s time for Melo to get that monkey off of his before it turns into the size of a gorilla.
