New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler has his sights focused on the Defensive Player of the Year award. Chandler has been working towards that honor since the start of the season and thinks he deserves to win the award.
Chandler is never one to praise himself over the team, but the center admitted to working for the accolade and the coaching staff believes he should be receiving the trophy at the end of the season.
“It would mean an awful lot to me,’’ Chandler said, New York Post. “That was one of my goals coming into the season. I felt I put myself right in the thick of things for consideration. I personally feel like I deserve it. It would be a great honor.’’
Chandler has been a defensive anchor for the Knicks this season and the front office brought him to the team for that exact reason. He helped the Mavericks close out the Miami Heat in the Finals and his presence in the locker-room was irreplaceable. If Chandler has stayed in Dallas, there is no way the Knicks would be looking strong heading into the playoffs.
