Rookie Sensation: Iman Shumpert

And with the seventeenth pick, the New York Knicks select: Iman Shumpert! I never followed Iman in college;  I only knew about him through the scouting reports and by researching what other analysts said about him online. What I got from it all was that he had a lot of potential and could be a solid back-up point guard who would help us out in the defensive end. The 6′ 5″, Iman (from Chicago, IL) played three years of college ball in Georgia Tech where he averaged 12.7 points per game, 4.2 Assist per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game.

According to the scouting reports and to what the analysts said about him, Iman has exceeded all expectations. He is a tremendous athlete who plays great defense and his confidence (sometimes overconfidence) cannot be questioned. Under Coach Woodson, he’s kept in check and that has helped him. Key injuries to Jeremy Lin and Amar’e Stoudemire have really given Iman the opportunity to show why the Knicks drafted him at seventeen and at the same time, have other teams shaking their heads as to why they passed him up.

Iman’s game play is one of the reasons why the Knicks are still in the playoff mix. He’s done a fine job filling in for every position with the exception of center and power forward. Not only is his defense impressive, but he’s also done it on the offensive end. One of the areas that he’s improved in is his jump shot. Thanks to his improved shot selections, his shooting percentage has dramatically improved as well.

Iman will probably not get the rookie of the year award, but the sky’s the limit for this kid. He will be a force to reckon with for years to come. Our shooting guard position (which I feel is his ideal position) has been answered thanks to Iman, the rookie phenom.
