Melo: 39 points, 10 boards, and some newfound respect.

Carmelo Anthony Brings Excitement Back to the Garden

The New York Knicks beat the Chicago Bulls yesterday, 100-99, thanks to Carmelo Anthony’s heroics. Anthony hit the game-tying three in the fourth quarter and he ended up making the game-winning three in overtime. Anthony put the Knicks on his shoulders during the game and dropped 43 points en route to the impressive win over the Bulls.

The Knicks were without two of their usual starters, so Anthony had to make sure he was on his A-game on Sunday. The Knicks had been playing well behind Anthony, but his play on Sunday was flat-out extraordinary.

Anthony had been struggling to a certain degree with the Knicks and he hadn’t really come up clutch in a key game. However, Anthony essentially had his welcome home party with the Knicks and it was the first game in which he came up big when the Knicks needed it the most.

“It was a great atmosphere,” Anthony said after pouring in 43 points. “That’s how the Garden is supposed to be. This was a playoff-type game.”

Madison Square Garden exploded after both of Anthony’s threes and the atmosphere in the stadium was unreal. To most fans it felt like the old Garden, and hopefully those spirits continue on in the playoffs.
