University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach John Calipari won the Division I Basketball Tournament on Monday, and he is enjoying his first ever National Championship. Calipari has coached some of the best young talents in the NBA, but if you ask him, he would like to stay in college basketball.
Calipari’s first stint in the NBA did not go well, and there have been rumors of him returning to the pros for quite some time. However, Calipari has insisted that he would like to remain with Kentucky. The New York Knicks have been said to be one option for Calipari, but it looks like that will not be happening.
“Kentucky is the best job in basketball coaching,” Calipari said [ESPN.com]. “Why would I leave? We just won the national title. We’re chasing UCLA.”
The Knicks are playing well under Mike Woodson and it wouldn’t make much sense for them to use a college basketball coach as a replacement.
