Mike Woodson Believes Knicks are Title Contenders

Mike Woodson has been the head coach for the New York Knicks for four games, and he already sees something special in the squad. Woodson is currently on a four game winning streak and he believes this hot-streak will continue during the 2012 Playoffs.

Coach Woodson told the New York Post that he believes these set of Knicks have a legitimate shot at winning the NBA title—this season. Although this is the first full season Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire had together, Woodson has faith that the players can bring an NBA championship to New York.

“They [the Knicks] have a legitimate shot to win the title. When the playoffs come around, it’s open season,” said Woodson.

It is nice to know that Woodson is optimistic that the Knicks can make a push in the post-season, but this team needs some changes before it can compete for the title. Even though their defense has improved over the course of the past couple of weeks, they need to be more consistent on that end of the court during the playoffs. Teams like the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat pride themselves on the defensive end, and these Knicks must do the same.

Still, New York has been playing much better under Mike Woodson and if things continue to go smoothly, the Knicks can be very dangerous come playoff time.
