Despite the fact that Mike D’Antoni no longer has a job in the NBA, he will still be joining his fellow Americans in the 2012 Summer Olympics. D’Antoni was an assistant coach under Coach Krzyzewski and he helped guide the team to an Olympic Gold Medal in the 2008 Beijing Summer Games.
Although rumors have circulated regarding the bad relationship between Carmelo Anthony and D’Antoni, those two are expected to join the same team in the summer. When asked if Anthony’s reported problems with D’Antoni will keep the former Knicks coach off the team, USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said no.
“Ultimately, as the guy who makes the final decision, I’m telling you, no, it will not have any bearing whatsoever. None,” Colangelo said.
D’Antoni worked alongside Krzyzewski and former Blazers coach Nate McMillan and those men did a great job restoring USA Basketball. This upcoming team is going to be as talented as ever, so it is another year of gold medal or bust for the members.
