Everyone expected the New York Knicks to struggle once Carmelo Anthony returned to the lineup after his injury. No, it wasn’t because they expected him to play at a sub-par level, it was because people had doubts that he could play with Jeremy Lin.
Lin had been playing extremely well and it was up to him to integrate Anthony back into the lineup. At first, things seemed to work out just fine and the Knicks continued to play well with Lin and Anthony on the floor. However, as the days have past, it is clear that Anthony is having trouble finding his niche in this new found offense.
Last night, the New York Knicks fell to the Dallas Mavericks, 95-85, and Anthony scored just six points the entire game. Lin did not do much better as he put in 14 points, but had to do it on 14 shots.
Still, the Knicks expect better from Anthony and their loss last night puts them at 2-4 since his return. Lin is a great piece to the puzzle, but the Knicks can only go as far as Anthony takes them. If he cannot find his place in this offense, New York needs to come up with a better way to allow Anthony to get better looks.
“I think any time you go from the early part of the season and having the ball and distributing and now waiting for it to come to me, it’s quite an adjustment for myself,’’ said Anthony (New York Post).
The Knicks’ second-unit almost pulled off the miracle win in Dallas, but when Mike D’Antoni reinserted Anthony and Lin into the game, the Mavs pulled away. The reserves had no problem finding chemistry, but it seems as though Lin and Anthony are the ones that cannot put it together.
