Report: J.R Smith to Knicks

In a day filled with some pretty positive Knicks news, Knicks fans got some more potentially positive news today. This morning Howard Beck of the New York Daily News tweeted that J.R Smith is close to signing with the Knicks.

The 6’6 shooting guard has spend the entirety of his season playing professionally over in China until recently when he was granted release from his team following a disappointing end to their season which saw them miss out on a trip to the playoffs.

Smith has made a name for himself in the NBA with his erratic play, which at times makes him the best Sixth man in the NBA; and at other times has made him a ball stopper and a coaching nightmare.  It seems rather fitting that he should end up with the Knicks given their propensity to make all-or-nothing moves over the course of this past year. We are now able to add signing J.R Smith to the list.

The Knicks would have to cut a player in order to make room for Smith. At this point it seems like Jerome Jordan might be the player cut, given how small his salary is.

J.R Smith would add some big time scoring potential to a second unit that could use some help in that regard. Smith averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in close to 25 minutes a game for the Nuggets last season.
