Stop the Linsanity!

Let me preface this with a few facts about myself. I am a very big Knicks fan.  I am an Ivy League graduate.  I am also about 6’3″ and 200 lbs.  I have a lot of reasons to like Jeremy Lin and want him to succeed.  I was at the game against Utah and got to see him first hand.  Jeremy Lin does some things very well.  He has great vision passing out of the pick and roll.  He is a tremendous finisher when he goes to the basket and has a great first step to get him there.  Over the last 3 games he is averaging over 25 points per game and over 8 assists.  It is a great story, no doubt.

It won’t last.  At least not at this pace.  He will still play pretty well I think, but more in the 10-14 ppg area.  And that is fine.  I think we’d all be happy with that.  Let’s just all keep things in perspective.  Yes, the first game was against Deron Williams, but he was pretty much unknown at that point.  The next game was against the Jazz and Devin “I have no idea how to play defense” Harris.  Then he played John Wall and the Washington Wizards.  There is a reason that they are 5-21.  Also, remember that D’Antoni’s system favors point guards.  I am not trying to say that Jeremy Lin has not played well.  He has.  I have enjoyed it greatly.  Despite the system, no one else on the team was able to run the offense like this.  I just think we all need to prepare ourselves for an inevitable drop-off in his production.  I still think his trajectory is still in the really solid backup point guard range.  And that’s nothing to turn your nose up at.
