Knicks Top 5 Suitable Coaching Replacements

Majority of Knicks fans have been in an uproar with the coaching of the Knicks current coach Mike D’Antoni. It hasn’t reached the “Fire Isiah” chant level, but the rumblings are apparent. With D’Antoni only having this season remaining on his contract, fans are ready to look towards a new person to run the show on Broadway. Here is my top 5 Head Coaching candidates:

5. John Calipari

Maybe the coolest college sports coach ever, players love him, and he has a history of recruiting athletes who off the court have  some issues. Rumors of John coming to New York started and ended very quickly back in early 2011, his charismatic persona would have been a great fit for N.Y. and its media. He’s currently still under contract with Kentucky University, but not even he could pass up the chance to coach in the biggest city in the world.

4. Mike Woodson

The Knicks current Assistant/Defensive Coordinator coach is a great candidate for the job, his tenure with Atlanta Hawks was not in vein. He consistently lead the Hawks to the post-season, despite not getting past the semi-finals round, he did manage to restore hope to a basketball city that had lacked competitive basketball. With Woodson’s help the Knicks have reached the Top Ten in defensive ratings. He lacks the sexiness of other coaching options but he does have the right style; defense.

3. Mike Krzyzewski

Love ‘em or Hate ‘em, Coach K gets it done. His success is well documented: 4 NCAA chips, 2x NCAA Coach of the Year, Gold Medal Honors from the Olympics in ’08 and FIBA in ’10. He’s shown that he can coach at any level, and specifically with very talented players, and that’s just what the Knicks have now in STAT and Melo.

2. Jeff Van Gundy

JVG held the reins in New York from 1995-2002, while in the Big Apple he lead under-achieving players to the finals in ’99. Jeff’s coaching style was unlike any others, he would treat every loss like the world was collapsing; regular season, playoffs, finals, it didn’t matter. At times, he would literally jump in and try to save his team. The pressures of leadership and constant scrutiny ultimately lead to his resignation in 2002, the Knicks were 10-9 at that time. If JVG wanted to return to the Knicks, I believe everyone, including MSG owner James Dolan would welcome his return.

1. Phil Jackson

Ahh yes, The Zen Master himself. He’s at the very top of the Knicks’ wish list ever since he retired from the Lakers. Knicks fans are praying he decides to return to basketball, Jackson and the Knicks go hand in hand. He only coaches the best, and yet he still finds a way to bring even more out of them. He took every great player from Jordan to Shaq and translated their talents into championships. James Dolan would do whatever it takes to bring Jackson to New York, if Phil does sign, expect his contract to be the biggest a coach of any sport has ever seen.

Daily Knicks peeps, who would you want to replace MDA?
