Knicks may play against Steph-less Warriors

On Christmas Day the Knicks faced their rivals from Boston and was victorious. The Celtics were without the New York hated, Paul Pierce due to a nagging heel injury he suffered during pre-season. The Knicks face the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night and they may be without one their top scorer’s in Stephen Curry. Curry is battling recovery from his surgically repaired ankle;

X-rays late Monday and an MRI on Tuesday were negative on the surgically repaired right ankle of Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry. Curry will be a game-time decision for Wednesday’s home game against the New York Knicks

Curry, who also hurt the ankle in preseason and missed three practices, doesn’t want to chance further injury, said his agent, Lance Young.

“With this shortened season and back-to backs, for him to be able to get four days of rest and get ready for Saturday (against the Philadelphia 76ers), he thought that (sitting out Wednesday) probably would be the right thing,” Young said.

“It was comforting for me that it wasn’t one of those just planting and moving kind of injuries like I had” injuring it last week in preseason, Curry said.

“It’s still frustrating that this keeps coming up. I had this all last year so for me it’s just trying to figure out why it keeps doing that and try to get it stronger.”

Curry missing tonight’s game could serve as a blessing for the Knicks, we’re hurting in New York as well, with a injury to Iman Shumpert during the Christmas Day game at home. The Knicks have added back court depth this week by claiming former Warrior Jeremy Lin from waivers, but without any practices under his belt, its unclear if Lin will see playing time in tonight’s game.

If Curry does not play, the Knicks will most likely see a heavy dose of the Warriors rookie sensation Klay Thompson. Thompson is an extremely talented shooter from Washington State University. Curry is a scorer from anywhere on the court and always has to be accounted for, where-as Thompson is primarily a jump shooter. The pressure will be on for Toney Douglas, Mike Bibby, and Landry Fields to try and slow down the scoring guards from the bay area, no matter who plays for the Warriors.
