The Knicks gave their fans a first time up close and personal look at the new Knicks team. It was a fun-filled Sunday afternoon of Knicks bonanza with Blue & Orange Basketball. This was originally a free event, but the buzz around this team is so strong that the tickets were being resold on sites for upward prices of $300. Its safe to assume that the Garden will be as live and as noisy as its been in years. The expectation level of the fans at MSG on Sunday was some of the highest this city has had for their team in over a decade. Talks of a championship and taking out the Heat, Celtics, and Bulls was roaring through the arena. It’s less than a week away from the NBA tip-off on Christmas Day, and all New York fans have on their wish list is a Knicks win over the hated rivals from Boston.
Fans will have another chance this week to see the team on the MSG floors before the regular season tip-off this Wednesday(12/21) vs. the soon to be Brooklyn Nets. They faced the Nets this past Saturday in Newark and left victorious, holding the Nets to just 83 points. Amare Stoudemire’s post game interview comments were mostly about their emphasis on defense, and defense is what Knicks fans love to see the most. Big time offensive highlights are good for “ohhs and ahhs” but the Garden faithfuls love a great defensive effort. If fans learned anything from that small dose of Knicks preview with the first pre-season game and the open-practice, they learned that the team will be dedicated to making a committed effort to defense. Its very easy for Melo and Amare to grab a microphone and tell the fans this and that, its and another thing to put the work in day in and day out to make it a reality. Stat and Melo seem up for the challenge, lets watch and see what happens.
