Former New York Knicks big man Charles Oakley had some unkind words for these current Knicks. Oakley spoke to the media during the unveiling of his clothing collection and touched on topics ranging from the toughness of Amar’e Stoudemire to Mike D’Antoni’s sub-par defense.
“Amar’e’s good, he’s good in his way,” Oakley said. “He’s a West Coast player trying to translate to the East Coast. And the longer he plays in the East, the more his body’s gonna get damaged, because he’s got to take a beating now.”
Oakley later went on to lambaste Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni, and was not pleased with the coach’s defensive schemes. ““I don’t think [it can be successful], but that’s his coaching style,” Oakley said. ”When they [the Knicks] signed him, they knew what they were getting.”
The former Knicks continued on to say that the franchise has not properly respect him or team legend Patrick Ewing.
