In Comes Woodson, Out Goes D'Antoni?

The Knicks might be the only team in professional sports history to create a coaching controversy with no actual season around the corner.

This from the New York Daily News:

Mike D’Antoni has already defied the odds by surviving three years as Knicks head coach, a position that previously had chewed up and spit out six coaches in eight years.

But for his first time in New York, D’Antoni’s job security has become an issue. Garden Chairman James Dolan decided against giving D’Antoni a contract extension and thus D’Antoni is working with a one-year deal.

Moreover, the club announced the hiring of Mike Woodson as an assistant coach. Woodson, a former Knicks first round pick who played for Red Holzman, is a one-time head coach with the Atlanta Hawks and provides the Knicks with a quick fix should the team elect to make an in-season coaching change.
