Knicks Set To Hire Mike Woodson

Daily Knicks reportedly earlier that the New York Knicks were considering former-Hawks head coach Mike Woodson as their new assistant. Now, it seems as though Woodson will be officially announced as the Knicks defensive coach some time next week. According to Daily News, Woodson told two confidants that we will be joining the Knicks’ coaching staff.

Mike D’Antoni and Woodson had a meeting in the past, but at time D’Antoni did not have Woodson as one of his top candidates. D’Antoni preferred to hire Lawrence Frank, but the ex-Nets coach signed a deal with the Detroit Pistons as their next head coach.

Nevertheless, Woodson can help the Knicks make a deeper playoff run next season. D’Antoni is known for his sub-par defensive schemes, so a coach of Woodson’s caliber will help the current Knicks team on that end of the court.

Woodson coached the Hawks from 2004 to 2010, and improved the team’s winning percentage in every season.
